Are you letting fear win?

“I start by just taking the next step and I am OK if I only that that one step today.” - Harrison Smith

As I wrote about yesterday, our fear of failure, opinions, and success prevents us from getting started on the plan we know will bring us closer to our goals and dreams. How do we get out of that cycle?

8 Reasons

There are 3 things that I do to keep myself moving forward, even when those thoughts creep in! 👊

1. I don't read my posts or watch my videos.

Too often we post something and then immediately read it or watch it and begin criticizing ourselves for the things we should have, could have, or would have done differently. We also obsess over likes, shares, and comments and dwell on the negative ones. What I have found is that the more you do, the more of that you get. Looking back prevents you from keeping your eyes on the future and does nothing but hurt your neck.

2. I break down the plan into simple steps and only take one at a time

I have always been guilty of looking at a project or a plan and thinking about the steps down the road versus just taking care of the next one. Until you push the first domino down, the rest of the dominoes don't matter because they aren't going anywhere without the first one starting the chain reaction. I don't let myself worry about the steps that I find scary that are down the road, I start by just taking the next step and I am OK if I only take that one step today. I can take another step tomorrow and that is called progress. It might be slow, but I am moving forward.

3. I don't share my results; I only share what I learned

Failing or succeeding privately isn't scary and doesn't hurt. Why is that? Because nobody knows what happened but me. I have had massive successes and massive failures that nobody knows about, all I have shared is what I learned on the journey. Last time I checked, failure isn't fatal so doing it doesn't mark the end of the road. It gives you the learning and perspective to do better next time. Success on the other hand can be life changing, but if you don't share that then nobody will judge your performance. Share the journey, but the results are yours and yours alone.

If you are like me, big goals are scary and exciting. I found a simple way to handle it, I hope you do too.
